Imperfect by Emmy Lou Virginia

Almost 3 years ago, I got this email that read:

hey jorge,

sooo. sorry for taking so long to get this to you!  i just didn’t think you were important enough. (i’m so nice.)  haha…”

Along with it there was this, a beautiful piece of words put together in a way that only she can do it.
Who knew I would be posting this today and saying from my heart that:
We are imperfect. and that’s awesome. and I love her.

I am crying for the crooked man selling tickets at the shopping mall last February.  I am crying for the bitten edges of a maple leaf.  I am crying for the orphans we don’t see on TV, whose eyes aren’t large enough, whose teeth aren’t white enough.  I am crying for the piece of gum stuck to my sneakers.  I am crying for the night the water flooded our tent.

I am crying for all the toast I have burnt.
I am saying, yes.
Yes.
I am imperfect.

last night, we ended up walking near this spot in Chinatown where Jorge first officially asked me to be his girlfriend (many moons ago).  it was, appropriately, because a homeless man had come up to us and mumbled, “don’t wanna interrupt you while you’re with your girlfriend, but can you spare some change?”
-and Jorge had turned to me and asked, “are you my girlfriend?”
-and i said, “i don’t know. am i?”
-and he said, “what do you mean, you don’t know? OF COURSE YOU ARE!” (or something along those lines)
-and that was how we awkwardly entered our relationship.

You know I dreamed about you. For twenty-nine years before I saw you.

The Crazy Story of Jorge and Emmy Lou

this is a story of two curly-haired people.

once upon a time (timeuponaonce)
a curly-haired boy and a curly-haired girl met and became friends.
a year passed, and he had to leave Vancouver, but -
before he left - he said:
“i like you.”
and she didn’t know what to say.

it was 2 years before they could be together again.
in those 2 years
(lotsofemails) (phonecalls) (skype)
(occasional plane trips) (and a collapsed lung)
they somehow fell in love.

and this video is the story of how God finally brought them together again
after the boy’s work had taken him all over the world, to Mexico, Los Angeles, Hong Kong…
this is the story of when the girl travelled to Mexico to see the boy and his family
the story of the first time they would really be together.

this is the story of Us.

  • Virginia: hey
  • i love you
  • Jroge: like twenty-seven strangers separate without a sound?
  • Virginia: no like seventy-three elephants galloping around an orange amusement park
  • Jroge: cool
  • in that case
  • i love you too.
This. is. so. awesome.
(and oh yeah, it’s on my girlfriend’s wall!)
